Take part in Captain Scallywag’s Scavenger Hunt, guide your group around the ship looking for certain objects, watch out for those pesky rats!

Self-Led resource: Sensory Suitcases

Our themed Sensory Suitcases are available to pre-book and are filled with stories, songs, games and sensory handling objects to complement your self-led visit. Themes available: Pirates, Ship Cats or Seashore.

Self-Led Visits

Only £1 per pupil and accompanying adults go free! Pupils must be supervised at all times. (Self-led visits are normally allocated a 60 min slot).

Guided Tours

Find out about the different phases of The Tall Ship’s long and adventurous life and learn about the life of a sailor at sea on a tall ship!   All guided tours are accompanied with our sensory tour kit bags at no additional charge.  The kits include objects used to engage the senses and enhance children's learning and understanding.  These are particularly useful for ASN participants.

The Lunch of the Lighthouse Keeper

In this exciting sensory workshop children meet a costumed Mrs Grinling and Hamish the cat to read ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and hear about the life and role of a lighthouse keeper before making either their own seagull puppet, iced sea biscuits or model lighthouse to take home with them. Activities include storytelling, role play, object handling and crafts. Children will then explore the ship in a teacher led hunt searching for hidden mice.

Mermaids and Sea Creatures with Sailor Sally

Children join a costumed Sailor Sally to hear about her adventures on the high seas and encounters with the creatures that live in them, followed by a chance to make their own mermaid or merman. Activities include storytelling, role play, object handling, songs and crafts. Children will then explore the ship in a teacher led hunt searching for all of the hidden mice.

Jock the Cat and the Pirate Mice

Children learn about the adventures of Jock, our ship’s cat as he saves Glenlee from some troublesome pirate mice. Activities include dressing up, role play and pirate songs. Children will then become mini-rodent inspectors as they take part in a teacher led mouse hunt around the ship and finish in the cargo hold interactive play area.

Level 1

Pirates Ahoy!

Ahoy mateys! A fun lively session with costumed pirates, including swashbuckling pirate fun, songs and dressing up followed by a hunt around the ship to find Captain Scallywag’s treasure!   *Upgrade  with real treasure to take home (chocolate coins) for only £1 per pupil.*

Sink or Swim

Based on the principles of floating and sinking, children will experiment with different materials to make a boat suitable for Jock the Cat. Pupils will then use the facts they have learned to sort materials into floating and sinking groups before using these to construct small rafts or boats for Jock. This workshop will end with a teacher-led mouse hunt around the ship to help Jock find those pesky mice!

Level 2

Morse Code Sessions

Radio Officers from the Radio Officers Association are offering to teach children about how the Titanic used Morse code to send out an SOS message during the disaster and pupils will even have the opportunity to have a go themselves! *All you have to do is book one of our Titanic workshops detailed above and you will get the short Morse code event for free!

Titanic: Shipwrecked

Pupils become mini-marine archaeologists as they uncover artefacts from the ‘unsinkable’ Titanic in ‘seabed’ sand trays. Using primary and secondary sources, they will have to work in teams to discover the stories of passengers and crew lost at sea. An ideal workshop to complement  ‘The Unsinkable Ship’ topic.

Titanic: Captain's Table

Pupils train to become a maid or waiter onboard the ‘unsinkable’ Titanic. A costumed maid or waiter will put pupils through their paces as they learn appropriate table manners and Edwardian etiquette. In groups they will design fantasy First Class Menus before attempting to set the Captain’s Table for dinner.

Shipyards at War: Glasgow's World War Past

Pupils explore Glasgow's historical influence during World War One and imagine what it was like to be torpedoed by German U boats and experience the intensity of a Glasgow guilt passenger ship travelling in treacherous waters.  Unlike any workshop that has been delivered on The Tall Ship before, this workshop combines a unique brand of immersive performance, visual art, film and history to create an extraordinary school trip for all primary schools.
