THE GLENLEE

Sailing Through History Since 1896

The Tall Ship – Glenlee represents Clyde Shipbuilding, Glasgow Trading and the Scottish Maritime Heritage.  Rescued, owned and maintained by the Clyde Maritime Trust she is open to the public to be a showcase to these traditions.  We invite you to share with us all that this historic sailing vessel represents.  We value your support in ensuring her long term future.

The Tall Ship at Riverside is owned by the Clyde Maritime Trust, a registered Scottish Charity. We depend on support from the public and other donors to fund the upkeep and restoration of our historic sailing vessel, S.V. Glenlee.

THE TALL SHIP'S STORY

Learn About The Tall Ships History

The Tall Ship, Glenlee is found abandoned in Seville, Spain. Galatea, her Spanish name, had been vandalised, stripped of her brass work and parts of her had been damaged by fire.

Her owner, the Spanish Navy, decides to sell her. Although Galatea was an iconic ship for the Spanish Navy, She was now threatened with being scrapped. The Clyde Maritime Trust buys her for £40.000 with a plan to bring her back to the Clyde and restore her. After repairs to make her fit for the journey she is towed home to the Clyde and arrives on the 9th of June 1993.
